Healthy Ways to Satisfy a Sweet Tooth

It’s 11:30 p.m. on a Wednesday night. You have one more page to write for your essay but it’s not going to get done without a little pick-me-up. You need a snack. Not something salty or savory, but something sweet.  You could go down to the vending machine and get a candy bar, or call up Insomnia to get cookies, but it’s late and nobody needs to consume 250+ calories right before going to sleep. So what do you do?

Hot chocolate – Nestle’s Fat-free hot chocolate has only 20 calories per serving and is perfect as a sweet pick-me-up. Simply put some powder in a mug with water and heat it in the microwave. This warm chocolate drink will definitely help you finish your essay.

Lollipops– Whether it be fruit or chocolate, a lollipop is a great option when you are craving sugar. Lollipops are a low calorie treat when taken into account how long they last. Try Tootsie Pops or caramel apple pops.

Popsicles – Popsicles are like lollipops in the way that they last a long time. Fruity bars or fudgiscles are  great options at 20-80 calories per serving. If you have a freezer in your dorm you can snag a few from the dining hall and pop them in.

Hard Candies – Keep a stash of hard candies around when you need a quick burst of something sweet. Head over to CVS for a dizzying array of Lifesavers, mints and more!

If you’re not in the mood for fruit, try these options for a healthy way to satisfy your sweet tooth!
